We have begun learning about fairy tales and story elements in Knowledge lessons. We have our own collection of fairy tale picture books in our classroom and the children are writing and drawing in a fairy tale journal. The children are able to talk about characters, setting, and story events finding similarities and differences among the stories.
We have been enjoying reading books to celebrate spring and you will also see pictures below of some of our projects from the end of our habitat study.
In math, we are learning new strategies to help us add numbers between 20-100. The students are learning to add equations such as 25+9= 34 by breaking apart the 9 into 5 and 4, next adding the 25 and 5 to make the next 10 of 30 and then adding 30+4 to get 34! This is a complex way of breaking down numbers to make a 10 and then add in a different way. You can see these strategies explained in the Appy Eureka Book sent home for Module 5.
In Skills we are learning to write an opinion paragraph on a topic by stating our opinion and giving reasons to support our thinking. We use topic and ending sentences and body sentences to "tell more."
