The children have been enjoying their first days of school. Last week we spent time exploring the classroom, learning daily routines while getting to know each other and having some time to play. This week we are already beginning our formal curriculum lessons which include math, language arts skills, and knowledge lessons. We are using a new math curriculum this year called Eureka. Each lesson has 4 main components: fluency, launch, learn, and land. In Skills lessons, we are working on letter formation, segmenting and blending sounds, and word-chaining activities. Our first Knowledge unit begins with Stories and Fables that will allow children to understand fiction and story elements such as character, events, setting, and the moral and lesson of each fable.
Our daily schedule:
Morning meeting
Knowledge-listening comprehension through oral stories related to science and social studies topics
Snack break
Math
Lunch and Recess
WIN time (student support and intervention groups)
Skills-language arts (reading, writing, spelling)
Specials (Music, PE, Art, Libray-Tech)
