January Learning

January has been a busy month. The children loved our astronomy unit. We learned so much about the universe, planets, the sun, stars, and the moon. Students drew pictures and wrote sentences about things we learned as we explored our beautiful collection of classroom literature on this topic.

We completed Module 3 in math which was rigorous and challenging. We learned a variety of higher-level addition and subtraction strategies that involved breaking apart larger numbers, using number lines, and drawing circles to represent numbers.

In Skills literacy lessons we completed our third decodable reading book called Fables. Students learned many new sound spellings such as vowel digraphs (oo, oi, aw, ou.) The children can read stories and answer questions verbally and in complete sentences.

As we approach February, we are beginning a new math module on measurement, a new Knowledge unit on the history of the Earth, and a new Skills unit using a non-fiction decodable book about zoo animals.

June has arrived!

I wanted to share some pictures of recent classroom activities as we move to the last days of school. The children continue to stay engaged...
